I got home from my D'Art group and shopping this afternoon and had a two whole hours until the next round of outside activity.
I decided to go into the kitchen and mix up some cookies (favors for Baby Girl's shower).
I'm using the recipe we used for the cookies for our weddings; the first one 31 years ago and the celebration/vow renewal a year ago.
Those are the only occasions for which I've made these cookies.
They are unbelievably yummy.
I lost my original recipe long ago, but found the recipe printed in a magazine years later.
Wish I knew exactly which mag to credit...I think it's from Better Homes and Gardens.
(I don't use the peppermint extract.)
It only took a few minutes to mix a batch of dough and then I had to put it in the refrigerator to chill for a couple of hours.
But, of course, just starting the mixer made me want to do kitchen-y things, so I got to poking around in the pantry and refrigerator hoping to see something inspiring.
I found some blocks of white chocolate.
I got to thinking about the mini-cupcakes we'll be serving at Baby Girl's shower.
I thought maybe we'd top the little mound of chocolate icing with something special.
I melted the chocolate in the microwave and put it in an icing bag with a piping tip on it.
I printed off a sheet of Baby Girl's first initial (on the back of my unused Michael's coupons) in a pretty font.
I placed it on a tray...
...and taped a piece of parchment paper over it.
Then I piped on the melted white chocolate, following the pattern underneath, and popped the tray into the freezer to set the chocolate.
They were nice and sturdy within just a few minutes...
...so I lifted them off the parchment paper and popped them into a little plastic (baby food!) container to put right back into the freezer until the day of the shower.
And that is how I got my "A" in cooking class today.
Amen.
