When she was a young girl, Naomi spent a lot of time roller skating.
As often as they could, she and her sisters would spend Saturday afternoon at the roller-skating rink; skating until they raised blisters on the sides of their feet from making the turns.
They raced in the the organized races on those Saturday afternoon.
Naomi could never go faster than her Seester (of Blue Bar of Happiness fame), but she was fast.
And she loved it.
So, when her young friend, Seska, joined a roller derby team a while back, Naomi was all kinds of interested in hearing about it.
She imagined herself out there tearing up the track with the rest of the Victory Dolls.
I mean, she imagined it, and she imagined it, and she kept on imagining it.
Well, I know Seska.
And Seska is a doll, Victory and otherwise.
Seska and I arranged for Naomi to join the group for practice and get it out of her system.
Naomi isn't fast anymore.
But, man, she had fun.
