I've been chipping away at all the sewing tasks involved in Me Darlin' Mither's guest room re-do.
I finished the pleated bedskirt and took it over there before I took a picture.
It turned out well, but the bed is lifeless and leaves me yawning.
(Which is okay if you're about to crawl into it, I guess.)
I think we're going to have to replace the coverlet.
I've got to finish all the things on the desk here and then start thinking about a new spread and about the zingers we need to add.
I washed all the cotton fabric I had purchased, only to find that it shrank significantly and was no longer wide enough for me to get all the pieces I needed.
That little snafu caused me to do a lot of re-design, because I'm just too cheap to waste that much fabric.
This large pillow cover with the striped fabric on front, for instance, had to have three sections on the back side instead of two.
I had already realized I was going to have to make my own bias tape to get the color I wanted, and, lo and behold, I found a remnant at Hobby Lobby which was cotton and a perfect color, so I made a hundred yards or so.
Seems like, anyway.
I'm glad I did, because I used it not only for the edges, but to hide the seams in the back as well.
The pillow tucks inside, and the velcro keeps the case from gapping.
I got the other two pillow slips done, and this little decorative pillow (with thanks to my Chicken-Raisin' Seester, who gave me the two large, but partially stained, drapery panels from which this was made):
But it's the drapes I am totally pumped about.
I bought two inexpensive, light-weight panels at Target and added some fabric to the bottom third.
I thought it would be easy-peasy, but it took a little bit of engineering (math, yikes!), and I wound up having to take the hem out of the bottom and (part of) the sides of the panels in order to attach the fabric in a way that wouldn't look, well, cheap.
After I attached the fabric, I pinned a little bit of the bias tape over the join, decided it was exactly what they needed, and sewed it on.
I had Prince Charming cut down the existing curtain rod and I'm going to spray paint it later today...I don't think the black is going to fly.
I should be done with all the tasks at hand by the end of the week, and I am thinking about a few projects to bring some life into the room.
How about some orange-red in an appliqued pillow, sort of like the one here (scroll down to see the image)?
And I'm thinking of making one of these for corner of the room.
I've made the birds before, but never the mobile.
The walls in this room are all bare, and Me Darlin' Mither loves birds.
Any ideas for me, Dear Readers?
I'm getting bogged down.
I think I'll go to my studio and make paper fish.
